Segregating Black Beans During Harvest

Posted on

With harvest beginning very soon, we would like to get the word out that we will be attempting, when possible, to keep the black bean variety 06252 separate from all other varieties. In MSU canning trials, performed this past winter, the black variety 06252 held a high score when it came to color leaching after product was canned. Color leaching is a very important part of the canning process and we have been asked to segregate this particular variety by some of our largest customers.

While delivering blacks, we would appreciate you or your drivers notify the pit attendant as to what variety is on the truck.

Thank you and have a successful and safe harvest.
